Coloured Smoke

If it is rainy outside during December, you could spend your (photography) time very well inside too. I played around with smoke again and had a lot of fun as it worked directly thanks to the preparation and the experience of the first try. The white background and the color gradients are created by extensive image editing certainly.

I was inspirated by some other pictures and wanted to try such smoke pictures by myself. This is best the one of my first session. You can’t imagine, how difficult it is to catch the smoke in the right focus distance!

Burnout

While we drove a very isolated mountain road in Monchique (Portugal), I saw this awesome burned-out car wreck but decided to come back at another day, when I can take advantage of a better sun position. A few days later, I got the opportunity to use my new ultra wide-angle lens Sigma 8-16 mm at its shortest focal length to take this dramatic perspective. A little bit more from the side of the car wreck would reveal that it was once a Mercedes E-class.

Portugal Sunset II

This natural sunset is out of the sunset series I have taken in Aljezur at the west coast of Portugal at the same time . I can’t decide which one I like more than the other, both are perfect concerning their gained impression – this one is pure, natural, just orignal that represents simplicity, silence but also a portion of wistfulness. It’s counterpart is a small exaggeration of the reality. The point is that our visible perception has seen something like the sunset in the other post but its unsual to see such a dynamic range in a picture which leads to a surrealistic rating.

Portugal Sunset

My last post is almost one year ago and it’s high time to continue my picture blog. During the photographers season spring and summer is usually not much time for image sorting, editing and posting but autmn and winter changes the situation. My yield of the year starts with a perfect sunset that I enjoyed in Portugal at the west coast in Aljezur next to surfer’s paradies Praia Arrifana. It’s incredible how fast the sun goes down and the impression can’t be captured in one image. That’s why, I created a HDRI (out of 5 pictures) which is closer to our visible perception.

Tower Bridge

Tower Bridge is one of the most famous sights and should be presented alone for this reason. I created a HDRI, which is the first image and show you a well exposed normal picture in comparison, which is the second one. I like both and would prefer either the first or the second one in dependence of its purpose.

London Sightseeing

A few month later, I found some time to continue with the promised sightseeing photos of London. This is a small selection of the main sights starting with the Big Ben and the Trafalgar Square with London’s famous double-decker busses in the front.

The second row only shows the St. Paul’s Cathedral and a nice place behind it. The whispering gallery of the cathedral is quite impressive and is always worth a visit.

Of course, The Picadilly Circus belongs to the “must-see” places.

If there is one thing on that the Londoner are proud in particular, so I will answer: “It’s their underground”. One of the most offered souvenirs is a key fob with the “MIND THE GAP” logo.

The image in the middle of row 5 represents the consequences of the economy crisis in London at that time. The penultimate row shows a few impressions of the lively district Notting Hill.

Tower Brigde, a beautiful place in front of the Buckingham Palace and the riverside of the Thames with the huge London Eye conclude this gallery.

Piccadilly Circus

Well, now it took quite a long time to upload some new good images. In the next days I try to present all my best London-shots, which I took over one and half year ago. This one shows one of my favorite scenes – the amazing Piccadilly Circus with its “sea of lights”. Of course, I had to take several images and combined them to this bright result otherwise I guess that you have to wait up to hours, just in order to get a completely illuminated advertisement wall! The snapshot opportunity goes almost to zero, thus we thank the today’s image processing.

Winter Impressions

The winter is ending soon and it is time to present my best winter pictures from the last two years. Most of them were taken in the Black Forrest (Schwarzwald) during a snowshoe-tour.

Sunset Kitsch
